Chief among them: populating our baby registry with tasteful, neutral, classic items -- like a beige, hardwood Eddie Bauer highchair.
It was handsome, like a well-made piece of furniture. It sat unobtrusively in the dining room, seamlessly blending into the decor, anxiously awaiting baby's first upright meal. And when it was time for that first dose of solids, we realized that just because Eddie Bauer makes some serviceable clothing and inoffensive auto styling, they don't know SQUAT about babies. (And please, don't get me started on the Eddie Bauer swing -- its only speeds, OFF and WHIPLASH -- or the bouncer she despised. Yes, we'd asked for them ALL.) First, you don't merely pop off the tray and pop baby in. No, savor the joy of cramming your precious, delicate infant into the poorly-padded seat and wedging her sweet, plump legs through a narrow plastic T-bar. Now, figure out how to...Read more 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Eddie Bauer Wood High Chair (Baby Product) I researched for days to find the perfect high chair. I wanted one that was 1. Sturdy 2. Safe 3. Easy to clean 4. Looked good. I found it all in this Eddie Bauer high chair. Sturdiness The solid wood frame is extremely rigid. There's no wiggling and shaking when you jiggle/bump into this chair! It doesn't have wheels but that makes it all the more sturdy. Also, it is very easy to slide around (has little feet on the bottom to protect your floor) Safety Ok, the one drawback of this chair is the strap. It is annoying to use. I actually gave up on it because with the tray in place my daughter has never been close to escape (though she tries her best) By the way, she has never been able to remove the trays. The tray removal handles are too out of the way for her to get at. Ease of Cleaning There are almost no nooks and crannies. The ony "nooks" are between the wood slats. However, the slats are far enough apart that...Read more 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful: By Kendra Benson (Florida) - See all my reviews This review is from: Eddie Bauer Wood High Chair (Baby Product) I suppose I can understand some of the negative reviews, but this highchair works great for my daughter. I will admit that I put her in it around 4 months just so she could sit up while I got some work done in the kitchen and I had to prop a few pillows around her because she's so small. Then I got the Bumbo (HIGHLY recommended) to take the place of the highchair.
But then when it came time to use the highchair for actual feeding there was no problem. She sits in it just fine. I don't see a need for all the adjustable features on ugly highchairs. We don't need a reclining seatback. Or seventy ways to adjust the tray. Or wheels to roll it on. It stays in the breakfast nook where she eats, the tray adjusts to 4 positions to accomodate a growing baby, and if your baby is eating solids, they should be sitting upright (in my opinion). It cleans great (because it's a vinyl, rather than fabric). The only thing I think could make it better is a one-handed operation...Read more |
