Terrific smaller alternative with small caveats,

We bought the FunPod on sale after having to return the very cool Learning Tower for being too large, heavy and cumbersome for our kitchen. This is a terrific smaller alternative that fits UNDER the island counter overhang, which means it juts out much less when not in use, in addition to having an overall smaller footprint. Our 19 month old is crazy about it, and still enjoys the novelty enough to just hang out at the island playing with things he'd quickly tire of on the floor or in his highchair. We get a good extra hour of kitchen puttering/prepping each weekend day with him happily in the mix, but contained. It's easy enough to move so that he can "help" us with tasks while we're cooking/baking or play at the sink. Seems perfectly sturdy, and though not particularly pretty -- finish seems indestructible. LOVES the FunPod.
In the interest of balance, here are the places where the Learning Tower might come out ahead, though size/weight won out for us:

Saw this and thought it would be perfect for our little one. Unfortunately, we'll never know. The first time, one of the panels (through which the platform slides in) arrived cracked. Returned and reordered, the second one had exactly the same problem - and the other side of the panel had a crack that had been glued back together. The particle board is not strong enough, and for the cost of the product it should be better made. We will not try a third time.

We had the Learning Tower for months and our daughter was always falling out of it, making us never want to use it. We tried numerous fixes (wrapping crib bumpers around, etc.) but nothing worked for our little Houdini. Once we saw the FunPod, we knew it would be perfect for her, and it is! There's no way for a child to fall out, and it even has sliders on the feet so it can be moved easily and your floors won't get scuffed. It's the perfect height for countertops and really lets kids get involved in the kitchen. Our daughter loves her FunPod and is very excited that we returned her "dangerous tower." If you are in the market for this kind of thing, I highly recommend it!
