Product Description
The Stokke Tripp Trapp is an updated version of the popular Stokke Kinderzeat, a revolutionary chair that grows with children from age six months up until adulthood! It also features a five-point safety harness for the best security available. Once your child no longer needs to be supported while dining, the Tripp Trapp converts to an attractive full-sized chair. No other highchair can boast the simplicity, versatility, and simple beauty that the Stokke Tripp Trapp can. The Stokke Tripp Trapp elevates your child to eye level with everyone at the family table, creating closeness and bonding between children and adults. From this vantage point baby is able to really take part in meals and truly feel seated at the table, instead being isolated and removed from the interaction in a traditional-style high chair. The adjustability of seat depth makes it possible for your child to bend his or her knees and reach the footrest, which helps to support the proper posture and development. Both the footrest and seat, in depth and height, are easy to adjust as your child grows. The Stokke Tripp Trapp feels like a real piece of furniture - a handsome addition to your home. With the variety of beautiful finishes available, you are sure to find a color to complement your dining set. Stokke also makes Tripp Trapp cushions in a variety of colors for added comfort and style. This award-winning high chair is ergonomically designed to provide stability, comfort and confidence. Rest assured, the Tripp Trapp will provide a lifetime of use for your family - it can hold up to 300 pounds!
Comment: As another writer noted, the highchair is an item that you want to be VERY pleased with, not just find satisfactory, because you and your child will be using it multiple times a day for a long time. I initially purchased a consumer reports recommended model that cost about half of the stokke. I found the chair impossible to keep clean and hated the seating positions that our family was forced to assume at meals because of it. Over a period of three months I grew to HATE mealtimes because of the chair and finally splurged on the Stokke.
It is like night and day.
The stokke is simple to wipe clean. I have been able to adjust the height so that our son sits comfortably at the table with us. His feet no longer dangle. I bought the baby insert but not the padding and he has always appeared perfectly comfortable without it. To protect the table I bought several BPA-free serving trays from IKEA and attached non-slip shelf liner to the back using double sided tape. They work wonderfully in containing spills and also make bringing food to the table much quicker. We are nearing the age where other toddlers are getting booster seats but luckily do not have to worry about that extra transition with the stokke. All in all I am very glad that I purchased this chair.

Summary: Best Investment - Will last you 4-5 years! 2010-03-03
Comment: We have been extremely happy with this high chair - our daughter has been sitting in it since she could sit up on her own - about 4 months old. She absolutely loves it - loves to be at the table with us. Takes up so little space and blends in with the rest of our dining set. We did get the baby seat - made us feel like she was more secure in it. We also received one of the cushion sets as a gift - the one with the colorful animals on it - it is water proof and wipes off with a wet sponge.
We will be buying a second one for our second baby due in June.
I recently visited some friends who have a 4 year old and they said they wished they had bought a stokke from the start since they ended up buying a traditional high-chair that didn't last and they had to end up buying a booster seat later for their 4.5 year old.
May seem expensive, but look at the cost of a more traditional high chair plus the cost of a booster chair later...

Summary: i have 2 of these. not for kids under 2 yrs 2009-06-21
Comment: I have 2 children 2 years apart. i bought one chair when my oldest was 2 1/2-ish and I needed the highchair he was still using for my then nine month old daughter. i have a small home and only enough space for a breakfast table. i needed the extra chairs for guests. so it was worth it to me to buy an additional chair for my child. also i read one reviewer who said that kids will sqirm less and be interested in their food if the chair they sit it fits them well. i think that is true. my kids are now 6 and four each of them has a chair that fits them well AND that they have always been able to climb into and out of themselves. I think this is important for their sense of self reliance. The chairs are durable and look brand new still.
I have two complaints and they are small (and this is why fours stars instead of five): 1) the sticker on the back with the warnings is ugly and has to be removed with goo gone takes a good half hour. 2) the straps never worked right, i never used them and eventually took them off. I could not adjust them properly and the kids would struggle to get out for only the reason that they felt confined. both of my kids have fallen out of their seats without injury- i believe this is part of childhood and they learn very quickly to sit properly. the seat itself has never toppled- EVER.
because i found the straps useless i recommend that you not use this seat until the child is able to climb up on his or her own. like at age 2 or more. these chairs are pricy but the cost of replacing our nice dining chair (which is part of a matched set) after it is scratched/stained from having a booster seat attached to it is probably comprable.
My advice is this: spend your money on the items that you use everyday- seats like these, rockingchairs/furnishings, quality cribs and sheets, quality adaptive equipement like stools and toilet inserts. get things that will hold up and feel secure for children to use. the added benefit is that when you are done with them and have enjoyed using them they have life left in them and you can sell them for a fair price at your next garage sale etc.
ps. I don't have the cushions. just one more thing to wash. i don't feel they are necessary for comfort or anything.
