Product Review
Product Description
The stylish Svan High Chair is designed for infants and toddlers to provide them with a comfortable and ergonomic eating space that adjusts to fit children 6 months to adulthood. The seat can be adjusted vertically and horizontally to provide children with the perfect balance of space and support; the footrest also adjusts to the ideal height for your child.

The snap-on, snap-off tray allows a child to have their own eating and play space. Use the dishwasher-safe Tray Cover, which is easily attached to the wooden tray, for messy meals of carrots and applesauce. The Svan High Chair can also be used with the tray stored on back, enabling the child to eat at the table with the family, even as an infant. When mealtime is over, simply wipe down your wooden tray with a damp cloth or throw your plastic Tray Cover directly into the dishwasher. (Cushion sold separately.)

Summary: style before functionality 2010-06-12
Comment: my wife put two of these for our twins on our baby registry and we got them. She always puts style before functionality - and these chairs are exactly that. Looks nice, looks like a furniture, not big bulky plastic like other high chairs, BUT performance as a high chair is really poor.
1) it doesn't recline. Try feeding a four-months-old on a chair with no recline! (our boys are seven months-old now and it is still very hard. We ended up using their bouncing chairs for feeding most of the time.
2) the screws come loose quite frequently (even though the boys are not sitting in it much and they haven't started jumping up and down yet. It is just designed poorly. Ikea furniture screws stay on tight for years.
3) The seat area/opening is small, it is already difficult to put our seven months-old in, i wonder how long before they don't fit in it.

Summary: Beautiful but absolutely not practical - review after 3 months of use 2010-06-03
Comment: I feel very sad to be writing a more negative view, because the chair is visually what I wanted - a stylish looking wooden highchair for my child. I have experience with the plastic monstrosities and also the stokke, I didn't want to get the Stokke because I find the tipping aspect a hazard (all my children have at some point tried to push their seat back with their legs on the table) and the legs were also tripping hazard for the boisterous boys on their way to the table. I REALLY wanted to like this chair - but it is like wearing stilettos on the beach - looks smart but a nightmare to use.

1) As mentioned - a nightmare to clean. So much thought has gone into the design of this chair, apart from the cleaning aspect. Too many tight nooks and crannies - far, far too many. Cleaning this thing could be a full time job, even if you aren't a 'scared of germs' mum! The straps are also impractical, as they obviously are being covered in food over a few mealtimes, yet seem to only be removable to wash by unscrewing or removing the whole of the back. It is also not a 5 point harness, for those who prefer this style.

2) The tray is tiny as other reviews have stated. You must get the plastic tray, due to the tiny but significant groove that runs around the inside rim of the wood tray - small but able to catch food and can't be wiped easily.

3)I purchased the cushions and now don't use them as they are a hassle and not particularly food or waterproof.

I could go on, but these were my main negative points. I also feel that when my child is a toddler and needing a 'chair' I will want something with a wider seat. It just looks a little small and flimsy for a fidgeting toddler, and I would be concerned they may fall off.

I sooooo wanted to like this chair, but no matter how gorgeus it is - I would not recommend it or buy it again. I might even be tempted by the Stokke when my child is older. Shame.

Summary: A pretty piece of junk 2010-04-26
Comment: An extremely disappointing high chair. We bought it based on great reviews but its garbage. Once a week I must re-tighten the many screws with an allen wrench as they come loose over and over. Just this morning one main bolt fell out onto the ground again. As a result of the constant loosening of the screws, the table is rarely flat. It usually slants down and away from our child, so most food likes to fall over onto the floor. As others have mentioned, the plastic tray table is hard to remove and since the table doesn't adjust horizontally, a lot of food ends up on your child rather than in their mouth or on the chair table. A huge disappointment. The only plus for this chair is that it is made of wood and it looks nice. Its functionality is terrible.

Summary: Fits in the car for Gma visits! 2010-02-24
Comment: I have an 18 month old climber and she has had this since she was about 4 months old, so I've had some experience with this chair.

First, the good things are that the chair is small, pretty, fairly light and easy to move around. We drive a small hatchback and we can easily fit it in the back when we are going to a restaurant or Gma's house. I like that my daughter can have a bit of familiarity in strange places. I love the fact that it matches our hardwood and other furniture. I can get it through doorways easily and down the few steps to my kitchen. It pulls right up to whatever table we're sitting at and I almost never use the tray, but for a few times when I need to get some kitchen work done and she wants to be eye level. That I think is the key here, because the tray is definitely a weak link.

There are only a few "bad" things, and I tend to overlook them easily. Here they are: The tray fit is just ok. It no longer stores properly in the back because the wood surrounding one of the female dowel parts broke off/out inexplicably, a long time ago. It was weird, and we just got around that by storing the tray in the kitchen instead of the back of the chair. I haven't needed to use the tray for many months, however, so it's no big deal for me. If I needed that tray daily for something, it would be a pita. The other is that the chair is a bit rickety now that my daughter has climbed it numerous times. Oh yeah, you can tell me it's my fault for letting her climb it, and what's the big deal, just tighten the screws, etc etc. Well yeah, but the tool is a "special" one that came with and I have a toddler and a busy life style. By the time I see her climbing on it or I have need to use it, it's too late again. I dont feel like the chair will break, but I'd rather it were a tad more sturdy and maybe a little less bendy.

I would buy this chair again, because no one has come out with something as pretty that is more sturdy. This time though, I would do it knowing there would be a few bumps along the way and I would probably be a little less chipper about shelling out the bucks.

Summary: high chair for my 9 month old plus 2010-02-06
Comment: After difficulty with delivery from the manufacturer and settling for a different color, this chair is about what I expected. I'd seen it at a friends house, so I was prepared for it's small size. Lightweight and fits easily up at the table or stand alone. I was not prepared for the assembly, minimal to moderate. I am disappointed that the tray cannot be used when the seat is lowered for a larger child. The looks are modern. The washable plastic tray is great.
